If you’re seeking beautiful full color glossy photographs of Kim Simmonds and his band jamming live on stage…sadly, you’ll have to look elsewhere, but, if you’d like to watch Kim and the boys as they blow the roof off the CoachHouse Concert Hall, read on.
Savoy Brown with above mentioned Kim Simmonds out front have been ‘rocking the blues’ (to quote their slogan) for over 45 years! That’s right,  since 1965 Simmonds and company have been recording hit records and playing them live to audiences around the globe and I’ve seen my share of them. I’m especially happy to say that today I can share one with you  in a way like you ’ve never seen.
With as many personnel changes as one would expect with longevity like I mentioned above,  Savoy Brown survives and thrives today because of performances like this and because Mr. Simmonds is a true professional in every sense of the term (a guitar players guitar player if you will) and an incredible songwriter. Because of the bands generosity the last time I saw SB at the CoachHouse I was able to capture some one camera hand held video of them and posted it on my YouTube page.
Two years and about 45,000 clicks later I met with Kim and his manager and convinced them to let me bring a full crew and capture them right.
To my surprise, they agreed!! The following is what we came up with:

They played a mix of old classic SB tunes and new classic SB material, (nope that isn’t a typo, I said new classic, and I meant it). Check out ‘Natural Man’ below and I’m sure you’ll agree.
 The line-up this night was:
Kim Simmonds – Guitar
Joe Whiting – Vocals / Sax
Garnet Grimm – Drums
Pat DeSalvo – Bass
The set list from that historic Saturday night in beautiful SJC:
Savoy Brown:
Meet the Blues Head On
Lookin’ In
Natural Man
Street Corner Talkin’
Little Red Rooster
She’s got the Heat
Train to Nowhere
Too Much of a Good Thing
Shock Wave
Wang Dang
Poor Girl
Voodoo Moon
Look at the Sun
Encore:
Hellbound Train
As is normal for the ‘sit on our hands’ crowd at the Coachhouse we only managed to squeeze one encore out of the band and as a result didn’t get to hear ‘Tell Mama’ (a personal fav) but I blame nobody but ourselves because it was on the set list, we just didn’t earn it.
(Note: Click any of the bold print [links] above for band or venue details).

On the same bill that night was a local band and favorite of mine, ‘Give Me Back My Wig’:
Danny Brown – Lead Vocals
Paul Cummins – Guitar
Tom Manion - Bass
Glen Maiden – Drums
Glenn Stacey – Sax
My buddy ‘One N’ Glen Maiden (listed above) helped me and the crew get in the door then delivered the crowd a scorching warm up set which included this standard:

*NOTE: For those who absolutely must have photos, these pics are for you care of my friend Kathy Garr who has a keen eye indeed. Thanks Kathy!
As you can plainly see if you’ve made it this far, this night was special in many ways. The fact that I was able to be a part of it will be a memory I’ll cherish for a long time.
To Kim, Joe, Garnet, Pat,(Savoy Brown) Glen and the Wig, Gary, Clyde and the entire staff at the CoachHouse, My Crew, Ian and Kim(Koch), Wade and Axis 4 Studios, Howie for the super clean audio and to YOU, Blues fans who make it all worth while,
Thanks for the ride!!!
