Lance Lopez rocks BB King’s

Welcome back my fellow Blues lovers! This week I am featuring some photos of the always entertaining Lance Lopez from his April 25, 2011 show at the BB King Blues Club in New York. I’ve seen Lance numerous times now and he just flat-out kicks ass! Before the show I hung out with Lance and friends backstage. It’s always nice to see Lance. We talked about Gary Moore’s passing, Stevie Ray Vaughan and just music in general. A short while later we were joind by Harrison Whitford. You know his father Brad Whitford from Aerosmith. Harrison had his Strat with him and would later join Lance on stage for a jam. I also got to meet and say hello to Lance’s band for this tour, bassist Chris Gipson and drummer Jimmy Dereta. Lance has found himself a couple more winners!

The Robert Hill Band kicked off the evening’s festivities followed by the Patrick Stanfield Jones Band. After they were done Lance and band came out and proceeded to lay down some fiery hard-rockin’ Blues. Chris on bass and Jimmy on drums lent solid support to Lance’s high energy playing. Lance was eventually joined on stage by Harrison Whitford and guitarist Andy Aledort and they proceeded to rip it up. Three guitar attack! Also in the house was my friend Jimmy Kunes, frontman for the legendary band CACTUS. He also joined Lance on stage for a couple of tunes. The party was on!

As you can see from the photos Lance was having a blast. I think Lance must have played at least 2 hours. Just another solid BB King’s performance by Lance. My one gripe has nothing to do with the band but the rather sparse turnout. I mean, you’ve got this fiery guitarist in the mold of Hendrix and Stevie Ray ripping it up so you’d think there would be a larger turnout. Where were the New York guitar players and Blues fans?! I was disappointed. I go to a lot of shows and too many times I see great musicians playing to too many empty chairs. I thought New Yorkers were supposed to be so sophisticated. What gives? Nevertheless, that did not stop Lance and band from putting on a great show. Thank you Lance! I look forward to seeing you again down the line. Rock on my friend!

My thanks to Lauren Sachs for her continued support.
