By way of introduction to those who may not know the many contributions by this kind man to modern music, here’s a quotation from his MySpace page:
“James Lott Grew up in Florida, started playing guitar at the age of 14. Graduated when he was 17. Landed his first paying gig when he was 17 at a Country honky tonk in Ft Walton Beach.( It was the only Bar available to him to play, and he was not a big Country music fan at the time) Then moved on to touring with Joey D & the Starlighters ( doing the eastern seaboard thing) With Bo Diddley, The Drifters, The Shirlelles. Then went on the road with Charley McLain for a few years. He became interested in recording & engineering and started out with a Teac 8 track recorder. James then made a trip to Memphis to record a record with the Hot Biscuits Band which was James, Robert Hall, Don Smith & Mike Maffei. He fell in love with the Memphis music sound. He Moved to Memphis Guitar in hand. He started playing in bands, notably the fine band Good Question, among many others. 1986 He landed a job at The legendary Sun Studio as the recording engineer thus began his 20+ year adventure working and playing with so many of the best of the best!”
James worked with a long list of great Rockabilly, Rock, Blues and Country performers as the man on the board at SUN and he has a huge number of friends from around the world including B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, U2, the Memphis Horns, John Mellencamp, Paul Simon, Billy Lee Riley, Billy Swan, Scotty Moore…a seemingly endless list of great musicians. Today we all are sending prayers and good vibes to James and his dear wife, Hettie.
